About

This site is built around the textbook Sustainability Science, which appeared in a 1st edition in 2013 and in a 2nd edition in 2023. The book aims to give an overview of theories, models, concepts and facts from a variety of sciences, that are of relevance for students of sustainability issues.

A historical context is given, worldviews are introduced as integrating framework, system dynamics and other methods are discussed with examples. Next, (un)sustainable developments in a number of areas are investigated in thematic chapters on population, nature, energy, nature, fish and forests, agriculture, water, energy and materials. These chapters and this site have question and answers (Q&A) sections at the end.

We hope with this site to advance sustainability education at university level. We welcome suggestions or contributions regarding relevant materials or site development suggestions (contact at contact@sustainabilityscience.eu).
